Why Fundraising and Volunteers Are So Important to Starlights Netball Club
At Starlights Netball Club, fundraising and volunteers are the heart of everything we do.
As a not-for-profit club, we rely on the support of our community to keep our players on the court each season. Fundraising allows us to purchase essential equipment such as game balls, training balls, first aid kits, and coaching resources. It also helps cover important ongoing costs including court hire, lighting for training, and paying our umpires each week.
Importantly, fundraising also supports our end-of-season trophies, presentation awards, and presentation days, special moments where we celebrate our players’ effort, growth and achievements throughout the season.
Without fundraising efforts, many of these expenses would need to be passed directly onto families. By working together, we can help keep registration fees as affordable as possible while still providing a safe, fun and professional environment for our players.
Volunteers are what truly keep our club running. From coaching and managing teams, to organising events, helping with uniforms, coordinating fundraising initiatives and supporting game days, every role makes a difference. Our volunteers generously give their time so our players can enjoy the game they love.
We are always looking for new volunteers to get involved, share fresh ideas, and help continue building our strong, supportive club community. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, your contribution matters.
Together, we can ensure Starlights continues to shine for many years to come ⭐

Ways You Can Contribute:
Starlights Netball Club is a community-based sporting organization fully managed and operated by volunteers. The club's viability and success heavily rely on the contributions of its members. The range of skills and time required is broad from annual roles on the committee, seasonal roles in coaching, managing, umpiring, and organizing social events. Even a few hours of help in Umpires Control or at the canteen can make a big difference. Participation isn't just a girl thing, the more guys/Dads who are involved, the better. The Starlights community is a special one and our netball club is a great way to meet new people. Here are some areas to think about:
Coaching: All coaches at Starlights are volunteers, including parents, talented players, and enthusiasts without children in the competition. Coaches train teams for one hour per week during the winter netball season and prepare teams for matches at the Blacktown Netball Association each Saturday for about 1.5 hours.
Manager: Managers play a vital role in supporting both coaches and players. They coordinate team communication, serve as a liaison between parents, players, and the management committee, and organize logistics for game days, including registration and scorecard completion. Most managers are parents of players and ensure everyone knows their schedule and responsibilities.
Umpire: Anyone interested in developing their netball umpiring skills can begin by completing the Rules of Netball Theory Examination, with support available from the Umpire Convenor, Carol, and other senior umpires. Umpires can also pursue accreditation courses if they want to advance further in their skills. Starlights compensates our umpires, making it a great opportunity to earn some extra money.
