Coaching is about more than running drills or managing game day. It’s about creating positive experiences, supporting player development, and fostering a lifelong love of netball.
No coaching experience is required. Whether you’re new to coaching or looking to develop your skills, Starlights Netball Club provides the training, mentoring and support to help you succeed.
Coaching can make you feel:

Become part of the Starlights family and the broader netball community. Build strong relationships with players, parents and fellow coaches while contributing to a positive, inclusive club culture.
Influential
Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches play a vital role in player development. You help players grow their skills, confidence, teamwork and enjoyment of the game, aligned with Netball Australia’s positive, player-centred coaching approach.
Supported
You are never on your own. All Starlights coaches are supported by experienced mentor coaches, who provide guidance, feedback and practical support throughout the season.
There are many opportunities to become involved as a coach at Starlights Netball Club, with clear entry pathways aligned with Netball Australia and Netball NSW.
Coaching Roles Available

Head Coach – Lead training sessions and game-day coaching, supported by mentor coaches

Assistant Coach – Support the Head Coach on court and at training, while building coaching confidence and experience
How do I become a Starlights Coach?
Step 1: Complete the Foundation Coach Course
The Foundation Coach Course is the only formal coaching accreditation required to coach at Starlights.
Netball Australia and its eight State and Territory Member Organisations deliver the National Coach Accreditation Framework through a blended learning approach. All Foundation courses are offered fully online, with self-assessment and practical components supporting coaches throughout the pathway.

Step 2: Obtain a Working With Children Check (WWCC)
All coaches aged 18 years and over must hold a volunteer Working With Children Check.

The volunteer WWCC is free of charge

This requirement helps ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants.
Step 3: Complete both requirements
Once completed, you will have:

Your Foundation Coach accreditation, and

Your WWCC clearance
